I decided to write a blog entry.
I don't have exciting news or anything. I guess I just feel like I need to brain dump. I had another day off from work today, which I'm not happy about. Normally people who work in schools jump for joy at snow days but this is already our 3rd one and it's only January. And it's possible we might have another snow day on Friday! It's too early to tell but I have heard rumors about 6-10 more inches....I hope that's not true. If we have more than 5 snow days then they pull from April Vacation :( I will be student teaching in April so I will really be looking forward to having that break in the middle to catch my breath. But it's out of my control, whatever crazy weather we get I'll just deal with. At least it's pretty to look at!
I am taking 2 online courses this semester. Well, one of them is actually only 6 weeks long. It's a personal finance course and I need it to fulfill my Family and Consumer Sciences qualifications. The other class is an Interior Design class, which will last all semester and I also need for my Family and Consumer Sciences certification. Eventually, I will also be taking some classes at JoAnn Fabrics to learn how to sew. I know that sounds crazy since I am trying to become a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher but I really don't know how to sew! My ARC teachers have taught us some stuff but I really need a lot more help!
Clothing construction is just one part of Family and Consumer Sciences and it's definitely my weakest area. I need to get some skills under my belt because the bottom line is that I have NO IDEA what area I will be teaching when I do student teaching or when I apply for a job. I would like to focus more on food, nutrition and health, but I am open to anything. And I want to feel CAPABLE of teaching anything. I think I'm going to look into buying a sewing machine so I can practice making some stuff. When I observed the Textiles teacher at the middle school her kids had already made a pillow and were working on boxer shorts.
On another note, one of my co-workers told me that 2 of the FCS teachers at the middle school might be retiring at the end of this year! I could maybe land a job there! Ahhhhhhh! I don't want to get my hopes up because who knows what is going to happen...maybe they will end the program and won't need teachers. Maybe those 2 people won't actually retire. Maybe there's other people who have already been promised the jobs. Who knows, but it is promising to hear that people in FCS are starting to retire. This is an aging field and I hope I can move on in once they move out.
I took the Praxis II on Saturday and I honestly don't know how I feel about it. There were questions on there that I didn't study for but I think I was able to figure out, questions that I definitely knew the answers to, and questions that I had absolutely no idea what the answer was. Plus I was exhausted. I had to take it at Yale and I had to be there at 7:30am, which means I left around 6am to make sure I had enough time to get there. Luckily, Karl volunteered to drive me down. He is THE BEST! He got up at 5:30am on a Saturday to drive me to my test. Which means I got a little extra study time in and was able to relax. Yay for Karl. I just hope I got enough answers right to pass.
Finally, I am on the hunt for a pair of black, short, flat, motorcycle boots that are cheap but don't look it.
