Liquid Lounge

So on Thursday I went out with my friend Jamie to this thing called the "Liquid Lounge", which is basically a big party at the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford, and it was really fun! It's 21+ and you have to buy tickets but they were only $10. There were bars on every floor, bands, DJ's, karaoke, an oxygen bar, and all the exhibits were open so you could do all the sciencey stuff while partying. It was pretty cool.

I tried the oxygen bar while I was there and it felt like I was just breathing in scented air. I had watermelon air which was nice but other than the smell I didn't really notice much of a difference.

Jamie was meeting some of her friends from school there and after we all met up we went through the different floors looking at the exhibits and trying different stuff. And then when we got to the top floor, a guy approached us and asked if we wanted to sign up for karaoke that was about to start in 10 min. and we were like "ummm okay!" So we went to the DJ, picked out a song ("The Sign" by Ace of Base), and started to wait nervously for the karaoke to start.

Finally it was show time and the DJ called up the first person. She was one of the Science Center workers and she looked really nervous and I almost thought she was going to bail on the karaoke and not do it at all. But then, she gets up on the little stage and starts to sing "Don't Let Go" by En Vogue (such an awesome song!) and it. was. INCREDIBLE!! She had the most amazing voice! She sounded just like En Vogue! I mean it was pitch freaking perfect, and she obviously knew the song really well because she barely had to look at the screen for the words. Well, me and the other girls looked at each other and said, "There is NO WAY we can go up there after her!" She set the bar so high and none of us wanted to follow that!

After she was done and the audience's cheers finally died down, they called up another girl to sing. We decided to stay and watch her and we thought, "Okay, if this girl is not as good as the first girl, then we will go on". Then the other girl gets up there and starts to sing "When I Think About You I Touch Myself" by The Divinyls and it was soooooo BAD! And the audience was laughing at her! She was laughing too, but it was also really embarrassing. And then at the end she started to make sex noises like they do in the song and it started to get really weird. Plus, that song drags on for a long time at the end so she was just standing up there saying "I touch myself, oooh, uuhh" over and over again! Well that made us even more freaked out so we decided not to do it. I kind of wish that we stayed and did it, especially because I've never done karaoke before but I guess that just wasn't the right time!

After we made our escape we went to another floor where there was dance music playing and joined in on the dance party that was happening down there. That was really fun. My favorite part was after I requested the DJ to play Madonna's "Like a Prayer" all the girls got on the floor and danced like crazy.

I don't know when they're having another Liquid Lounge but I would definitely go again!
